Leslie Adkin took this photograph at Lyall Bay in Wellington during Christmas in 1926. While going to the beach is considered an essential ingredient of Christmas and New Year celebrations in New Zealand, the photo shows that in the past New Zealanders were more inclined to dress up for the occasion.
