This is oval glass spectacle lens is still attached to part of the metal nose piece and frame. Significance The invention of wearable glasses has been credited to Salvino D'Armate in Italy in1284. Since then, wearable eye glasses for magnification and to correct vision have continuously evolved. This spectacle lens was part of a collection of objects found underneath the Randell family cottage when it was renovated in the 1990s.
