A swampy foreground with toitoi and flax, with the Petre house in the background, and probably the Western Hills behind. The swamp in the foreground may be Moreings Creek or part of the Hutt River. The house was in Petone. Formerly attributed to William Swainson. However Mrs Sheila Natusch suggests that the chalk highlighting is typical of George Swainson's style. Compare S
