Shows Fort Richmond, a group of voluntary militia on a road, and the Hutt River with a canoe As the fort was not constructed (under the direction of Captain Compton of Lower Hutt) until 1845 and Brees left Wellington in 1845, this work must have been painted in that year. The 58th Regiment occupied the fort immediately after it had been completed in April 1845.
