In the top frame Nazis throw books into a fire in the year 1933 and in the lower frame Americans try to pull a plug out of a socket in the year 2010. Context; a comparison is drawn between these two acts, both of which attempt to inhibit freedom of information. The first occurred on 10 May 1933, when students from the German Student Association burned upwards of 25,000 volumes of "un-German" books, presaging an era of state censorship and control of culture.
