Description

A Maori adze, with a carved handle, seen from the back and side; a carved saw with shark's teeth and a handle; a large conch shell as a trumpet with mouthpiece. All pieces have plaited cords attached. On the right, two carved waka huia, one with its lid open. Derived from engravings of objects taken back to England from Cook's 2nd and first voyages. The implements and shell are after an engraving by Record, published in Cook, J. A voyage to the South Pole and round the World (London, 1777) V...
